I’m not an influencer or anything close to famous... but I still get way more messages than I can realistically keep up with.
I don’t use an assistant or any tools to filter or reply. I actually enjoy reading messages myself. I’m naturally curious and like hearing what you are working on or building.
That said, a lot of cold messages just aren’t great. If you want to stand out (in a good way), here are a few things that help:
- Don’t ask for a call right away
I’m not going to jump on a call with someone I don’t know. Happy to chat over email or DMs first—most conversations work perfectly fine that way. If it makes sense later, it can turn into a call. - Keep it short
I do read long messages from people I know. But from someone new? I’ll probably skim or skip. Aim for 2–3 short paragraphs. - If you reach out on LinkedIn, add a note
I usually decline connection requests without one if I don’t know the person.
And if I don’t reply, it’s nothing personal.
